Monday and Wednesday Classes
ASL 1
American Sign Language (ASL) is the 3rd most common language in the United States. This course introduces the basics of ASL. It is designed for students who have little or no previous knowledge of ASL. In this course, learning is visually based. ASL questions, commands, and other simple sentence structures are introduced to develop conversational skills and beyond in ASL. Students will learn basic vocabulary, grammar, history, fingerspelling, numbers, and Deaf terminology. Information about the Deaf Community and Deaf Culture is introduced. This course is suitable for middle-school-age students who are serious about learning a language, high school language credit, or general community learning. Practice outside of class and/or Deaf events is required!

Algebra
In this class we will begin the fun and almost magical world of mixing the alphabet with numbers, work with high, but short numbers (also called exponents) and get comfortable with word problems and geometric shapes all with the goal of preparing for Algebra 2. The students will need to have completed an 8th grade equivalent math program. We will be using Saxon's Algebra 1 as our text

Pre-Algebra
In this class we will prepare for Algebra 1, meaning we will focus on knowing all the foundational math skills necessary to be successful in the future. This class will be tailored to meet the students where they are and build on their knowledge. The students will need to have completed a 7th grade equivalent math program. We will be using Saxon's Algebra 1/2 as our text.

Middle School Math
This class will focus on working on the math fundamentals needed to confidently move into a pre-algebra problem. Hands-on activities help to solidify concepts, making them readable and understandable to students so these principles can be applied in higher levels of math. We will also learn logical thinking using games and activities. This allows students to solve problems better and think rationally through the problems. Concepts covered will be: •Decimals •Number Theory and Fractions •Collecting and Displaying Data •Plane Geometry •Ratio, Proportion & Percentages •Integers •Perimeter, Area & Volume •Functions & Coordinate Geometry.

Homesteading with Younger Students: Animals
This class is homesteading animal - focused. An in-depth look at skills in working with chickens, goats, donkeys, horses, and ducks. They will learn body structures, eating habits, husbandry (caring ) for each of these types of animals.

Gardening and Foraging
In autumn’s gardening class for kids ages 10 & up, we learn what flourishes in warm weather and the essential care needed to maintain your garden during the fall. We will delve into different types of gardens, discussing topics such as: Planting; Garden upkeep; Harvesting; and Garden preparation.

Herbology Class
What will you learn in Herbology? How to nurture and utilize various plants. The role of plants in cooking, teas, and apothecary. An exploration of plants in natural and alternative medicine practices. The study and application of herbal remedies . Techniques for identifying herbs during foraging

Life Science
This course will focus on a multi-disciplined approach to Biology and Anatomy learning. This is a flipped learning approach wherein class time will focus on project learning and conducting experiments. We will learn the scientific process, how to write lab reports, and explore the six kingdoms of life.

Homesteading with Older Students
Learning to live in a self sufficient lifestyle. Preserving and maintaining instead of waste. Learning about animals and crops for maintaining one’s own needs.

Literature Around the World
We will read age-appropriate literature written from each continent using creative projects and discussions to draw notice to cultural similarities and differences as we explore around the globe. We will not utilize the five-paragraph essay in this class, but, rather, understanding of the text, creative writing, and mechanics. This course is designed to foster an exploration of the world through books and an enjoyment of reading same.

Biology with Lab
This year-long course serves as a complete high school biology course with lab work. The class will meet for once a week exploring concepts, having discussions, and performing lab work. There will be a fair amount of research-based learning aspect to the course so students can delve deeper into the topics that interest them while learning at least a little on all required topics. There will be quizzes, lab reports, and exams.

Taste of Languages
Students will tackle one quarter each of French, Spanish, Japanese, and Hebrew learning the alphabets, common phrases, fun words, and simple sentences. Each of these languages could be pursued in high school as the required foreign language units. Or, If you are like me, all of these languages can be taken in high school, college, and beyond.

Emergency Preparedness
Certified Emergency Rescue Team is a Georgia-approved fourth science credit for high school. CERT educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT volunteers can assist others in their community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help. •Includes a certificate with an ID# from Cobb County upon completion.

Geography
Students will explore continents, geographical formations, and languages using active learning — hearing music, exploring dress, tasting native food, creating native art or crafts, and more! Hand in hand with understanding the culture is remembering the geographic locations of land, rivers, and mountains that changed history.
